Mrs Margie Andrew-Reichelt is one of 80 artists selected from more than 1,200 entries. Her painting, Being Rosa, will be on display from September 14 to 19 and will then tour venues across the country.

“It’s thrilling to have work selected for such a prestigious competition. To show at the Mall galleries is a great privilege,” she said.

It is the third time she has shown work at the gallery. In 2013 her piece, 100 Hundred Heads, was selected by television presenter Mr John Snow, a guest critic, for a presentation.

Mrs Andrew-Reichelt, who has lived in Newark for 30 years, studied ceramics and textiles at Newark College in 2006 and completed a foundation art course the following year. She then studied at Nottingham University, graduating with a BA (Hons) in fine art.

She makes sculptural work and has her own kiln but since leaving university challenged herself to learn new techniques and mediums.

“This year I started to use watercolour paints, which is a very difficult medium to control but can create very sensitive results,” Mrs Andrew-Reichelt said.

“This suits my portraits that are inspired by many things - memories, social history, a headline and very often a feeling.”
