Police have cordoned off a part of London Road, Newark, after high winds partially blew over a tree.

A tree that had partially blown over due to high winds has been cut down.

The 25ft-high conifer tree on London Road, Newark, was hanging precariously at an angle to the pavement of around 45 degrees.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said officers had attended as the tree could have posed a risk to passers-by if it fell into the road.

Highways officers attended to make an assessment and remove the tree.

The incident was reported just before 11am.
