A homeless shelter may be opened in Newark this week as night-time temperatures are set to fall below -0ºC.
The Met Office has forecast colder conditions from the middle of this week, with a frost in most areas overnight.

Newark and Sherwood District Council opens a homeless shelter, at Barnbygate Methodist Church, if temperatures are forecast to be below 0ºC on three consecutive nights.

The shelter is run by volunteers.

A council spokesman said: "We monitor the forecasted temperatures daily and, given the current outlook, it is likely that the night shelter will be open from Thursday night to provide a hot evening meal, camp bed and breakfast at the Barnbygate Methodist Church in Newark to those in need."
