There were displays of around 700 trucks, monster truck demonstrations, performances by the FMX motorbike display team, vintage vehicles and vehicle recovery demonstrations.

Mr Tom Sidall, the event director, said: “The Newark show has always been our season finale and a lot of people come from across the East Midlands and the north.

“Truckfest’s aim was to bring like-minded people together to talk about the industry and have a beer with friends.

“The event is also well-supported by families.”

There were special appearances by Ron and Amy Shirley, the stars of US TV show Lizard Lick Towing, and Joey Essex, of ITV’s The Only Way Is Essex.

Joey, 24, said: “You get to meet all sorts of different people here. There’s more of a younger crowd and it’s nice to make an appearance and say hello.”

Joey, who was greeted by hordes of screaming girls, said the highlight was seeing the trucks and the motorbikes.

“I used to go to Truckfest when I was little,” he said.

“I was into trucks like every other boy and it brings back memories for me.”

Alan Vaughan, 20, of South Muskham, drove a monster truck he built with his father, Mr Kevin Vaughan, and uncle Mr Karl Swallow.

Alan said his uncle used to drive the truck, called Slingshot, but after his death 2½ years ago he took over.

When he started, aged 18, Alan was the youngest monster truck driver in Britain.

“We built this truck in 2006. My uncle used to drive it and it was his wish that I carried on,” he said. “I’ve been all over the world with it.”
