Around 240 Year Nine pupils took part in a range of space-themed activities to give them a taste of what to expect during their further studies and careers.

Activities included creating a flotation device to transport eggs off a balcony, programming robots to walk from one side of a table to another, and creating newsletters to report on the day’s activities.

The sessions were organised by a team from the University of Nottingham, who scored each group on their efforts throughout the day.

Design and technology teacher Mr Alex Lewis, who led the robot session, said: “The children have enjoyed the day.

“They were excited this morning — they were really fired up and raring to go.

“We will be gathering together in the hall later where we will have music and prizes and a talk from the University of Nottingham.”

Robin Perry, 13, said, “It has been great fun. We have been flying eggs and launching rockets. It has been a really fun day.”
