New idea for castle

The candidate for the Monster Raving Loony Party says he wants to turn Newark Castle into an intergalactic spaceport and move Parliament to the Flying Circus pub, Castlegate.
Nick ‘the Flying Brick’ Delves, 49, of Ashbourne, Derbyshire, is standing in his seventh Parliamentary election since 1997 and has never finished in last place.

Mr Delves said the Chiltern Hundreds of Stoke, Desborough and Burnham should be a nature reserve, which he would make a ‘Mercernary retreat.’

That was a reference to former Newark MP Patrick Mercer, who had to follow a procedure known as the Chiltern Hundreds to vacate his seat to lead to the by-election.

Mr Delves said he would return the British currency to pounds, shillings and pence, and would encourage rural villages to trade in shiny beads.

He also wants all European trains to run on gravy.

Mr Delves said party leader Mr Alan ‘Howling Laud’ Hope would visit the constituency before the by-election.
