Renewed appeal after Newark station incident

British Transport Police has renewed an appeal for information about a serious disturbance involving a large group of a men on a train at Newark Northgate station.
A 19-year-old man received facial injuries as a result of the incident, which was reported to BTP at around 11.35pm on Saturday, April 27.

Officers have renewed their appeal for anyone who may have been at the station or on the train and witnessed the incident to come forward.

Detective Constable Bob Hunt said: "BTP officers attended Newark Northgate station to meet the 10pm London Kings Cross to Leeds service after the report of a disturbance between a group of around 20-25 men who officers believe had earlier attended football matches.

"The men were seen running on and off the train throwing objects”.

DC Hunt appealed for anyone with information to come forward as a matter of urgency.

"Were you on the train or at the station at the time?" he said.

"If so, you may have seen or heard something that could assist our investigation."

"We would like to here from you even if you think what you saw may be small or insignificant.

"It may be the vital pieces to the jigsaw of events we are pulling together to solve this nasty incident."

DC Hunt said 14 people had so far been arrested in connection with the incident.

Six, aged from 24 to 54 are from the Newark area. The others, aged from 16 to 44, are from the Doncaster area.

All are on police bail, and additional enquiries are still ongoing.

Anyone with information should contact BTP on 0800 405040 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 where a reward of up to £1,000 is being offered for information that leads to anyone being arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
