Weather vane quote
8:43am Wed May 20, 2009
The cost of reinstalling a weather vane on the top of Newark Parish Church could be around £95,000.
The copper cockerel weather vane, dating back about 250 years, had to be removed from the top of the church for safety reasons in 2007. It was found to be balancing on a bracket that had almost rusted through.

It has been stored in the crypt of the church, along with the bracket, since it was removed from the top of the church.

The Rector of Newark, the Rev Vivian Enever, said the quote was so high because scaffolding and stonework were needed.

Mr Enever said that he would look to get support from local businesses to raise the money because it was a well-known landmark in Newark. They will also look for grants from historic trusts.

Further quotes will be sought before any work is carried out.
