Two courses with a Russian theme are being run by the Newark branch of the Workers’ Educational Association.
D. Shostakovich: His Life, Times And Music starts at The Palace Theatre, Newark, from Thursday, March 3.

The five-week course will investigate the composer’s life, times and varied musical styles.

It starts at 10.30am.

The second course is USSR 1917 To 1953 to be held at Newark Library from Monday, March 14, at 7.15pm.

The eight-week course will examine the role of Communism, looking at the key figures of Lenin, Trotsky and Stalin, and view the wars that the USSR was involved in.
