Hands-on way to relax baby
10:22am Thu Sep 29, 2011
An interest in complementary therapies has led a Balderton woman to launch classes in baby massage.
Anenge Turner says massage can be the key to a happy, healthy and secure baby.

She says: “Baby massage is a centuries-old tradition which can help give a child the best possible start in life.”

The key benefits, she says, are:

l To improve relaxation, encouraging longer sleep duration.

l To help relieve the effects of colic, teething constipation and wind.

l To stimulate baby’s major systems, such as co-ordination, respiration, digestion, learning ability and language development.

l To help strengthen the bond between parent and child.

l To relax both mother and baby.

Anenge will be running three courses, called Hands On Babies, at Southwell Methodist Church on Mondays, LA Fitness, Newark, on Tuesdays and Collingham Scout Hall on Wednesdays.

She says massage can be done from birth to six months.

“Babies’ needs are always put first.

“Whether a child needs feeding, changing or whether they are unsettled, their needs always come first,” she says.

“I never forget that new mums are in the same boat and that our children don’t always operate to timetables.”
