Main Purpose of Job

Reporting to the site crafts-team supervisor, the Mechanical Crafts Person (NAECI Grade 5) will be responsible for fault diagnosis, maintenance and repair of Mechanical Equipment across all areas of plant as well as carrying out operational support activities on this 4 unit, 1650 MW CCGT power station. Working in an efficient and proactive manner, in accordance with Company safety rules and procedures, you will require minimal Supervision. This is primarily a day working role but you must be prepared to provide cover outside normal working hours and to work shifts if required. You should be aware that the role includes working in confined spaces, at heights and in all weathers.

You will provide a full range of maintenance services such as – GT overhaul capability, ST valve overhaul, Outage delivery, defect diagnostics, plant condition monitoring, and compliance with planned maintenance (PM’s), breakdown response, repair, defect trend analysis and operational guidance.

The successful candidate will:

• Ensure the Power Station is a safe place to work and actively contribute to its safe, efficient and cost-effective running

• Be responsible for the quality of your own work, recording of activities carried out, via the station’s computerised work management system (PRISM) and making recommendations for future activities

• Ensure that all safety and environmental issues are reported immediately

• Ensure that all work orders are closed within the working day of completion, with quality feed­back to build plant history

• Be able to assess and produce quality Risk Assessments for all tasks

The successful applicant will ideally have:

• A proactive approach to Safety, Quality of Work and Company Goals

• A positive and proactive team focussed attitude

• A minimum of NVQ level 3 in an engineering discipline

• Appropriate accredited apprentice trained

• At least five years relevant experience

• Competence in the use of basic IT systems

• A high degree of self-reliance, self-motivation and self confidence

• The ability to make decisions in a pressurised environment

• Excellent communication skills

• The ability to develop good working relationships with those at all levels within the organisation

• High levels of experience in the maintenance and overhaul of static plant and equipment such as pipework, valves & packing(of various type), centrifugal and axial pumps, fans and compressors etc
